Yasmin Mansour, growing up between Qatar and Egypt, started her fashion journey at the age of 19 in a fashion school in Egypt. Drifting away from art direction, Yasmin decided her place to be is in fashion designing. As proved through her crowd-pleasing work, Yasmin is in the right place to express her vision into avant-garde pieces of art. She marked her style as vibrant, and without a doubt, different. One way to do that is exploring recycled materials which has turned out to be amazing and motivated me to contribute to the environment."
Inspired by nature and her dreams, Yasmin translates her need to express her thoughts through wearable art. She is gifted in turning pictures in her mind to a stylish dress women flaunt in their special events. Her previous collections showed her love to experiment with different materials and fabrics, making various undaunted statements through metals and feathers. In her latest collection, FW2019, Yasmin opted for spirited and edgy looks that reflect a graceful feminine air while staying bold. Very recently revealed, the collection was highly anticipated given the remarkable succes of the highly sought after SS19 collection. We can't help but anticipate the highest of endeavors and the finest of works from the ever evolving and fashion forward Yasmin Mansour.
When did you first realize you wanted to pursue a career as a designer?
I first thought about becoming a designer when I found that I wasn't in the right place for me. I was studying Art Directing in Egypt when I was 18. From the first semester I realised this is not really the career I want to pursue. So, I looked back to my basics. I was always very creative and wanted to pursue an imaginative, expressive career. I started looking for fashion schools and I finally decided to go in to Italian Fashion Institute.
What was the biggest inspiration behind your latest collection?
My dreams. I have always been fascinated by how one can turn dreams into reality. This collection is about a girl who makes her dreams into reality.
What’s your personal top pick from your latest collection?
I like all of them but there's one that's special to me. The tuxedo dress is my personal favourite. I feel this dress is so me, reflecting me in someway.
Who is the Yasmin Mansour woman?
She is a dreamer. She is not afraid to stand out. She cares about high quality. She has her unique style. She doesn’t follow trends.
What made you take fashion more seriously and make a career out of it?
My clients. They totally changed how things went. My first collection was very successful, after a very positive feed back from my clients and family, I decided to continue it as a career. It is a dream and reality not a talent.
How do you balance creativity with commerce?
I learned how to balance from my costumers. Thanks to them I found out that the most important thing for me as a designer is to be creative. I always focus on providing the best quality in production. I follow customer demands and learn from my previous collections and experiences. I learn what needs to be changed or added.
How has your work evolved since you began your own label?
I personally evolved into becoming more serious and focused on making the quality better and better. So that's one thing that surely is getting better day by day. I try to add more statement pieces as well. Also I am focusing on my goal to have a sustainable brand.
What is your favorite part about being a designer?
My favorite thing about being a designer is turning pieces from a picture in my mind, a daydream, or even a dream into reality. I love seeing someone wearing my collection pieces locally and internationally. Also, it always makes me very happy when people recognise me because of my work.
What role do you think social media plays in fashion today?
A very important role of course. I think social media has had a very positive impact on the fashion industry. Social media made it very easy for everyone to see the latest collections just in minutes after they are released and purchase it instantly.
What was it like for you as a designer to make it to the finalists in the Evening Wear category of Fashion Trust Arabia?
It was great experience. I am honoured to be considered among the amazing group of finalists. It was an amazing opportunity to meet all those great designers and judges. Being nominated and selected as a finalist was a huge confidence booster. I am also grateful for all the support I received from my family and friends.
Who would you most like to see wearing Yasmin Mansour?
Everyone! But most of all I would like to see my family and friends wearing YM.
What's next? What’s your vision for the future of your brand?
I want to keep working on offering the highest quality products. Otherwise I am working on selling my designs worldwide. I want to open a showroom. I am also aiming to participate in Paris Fashion Week, it's a future goal for me.
